TMO OPENS OFFICE IN READING, PENNSYLVANIA
Submitted October 25, 2005
After two years of
planning, the TMO is finally proud to announce the opening of our newest
satellite office located in Reading,
Pennsylvania. “Due to the increase in membership in
the Northeastern United States, (the Council)
feels that this new office is necessary to provide services in that
area,” said Mike Foulks, director of the new office. The new facility
consists of a 3-story building built in 1905, a 2-story addition built in 1950,
and a 1-story building at the back of the property. The main building consists
of a lounge and internet office on the first floor, two offices on the second
floor, and a lounge and two storage areas on the third floor. The main building
also has a full basement which will house maintenance and storage areas. The
2-story addition has a modern kitchen and laundry facility on the first floor,
and an office and restroom on the second. A nuclear fallout shelter is located
underground beneath the addition, and is accessible from the basement of the
main building. “We are currently debating whether to seek funding for
repairs to the 1-story building or simply have it demolished,” said
Foulks. If the building is removed, the extra space would be used for parking.
The new facility was purchased by the TMO through a grant from the Hughes Ranch
in Elverson, Pennsylvania.

Fire at TMO
Building
Submitted October 17, 2002
At approximately 10:00 PM on
Wednesday, October 16, a small electrical fire broke out at the TMO Building.
Mike Foulks of the Council stated that damages were estimated at $1.19. He said
that the fire was well contained and only destroyed 6 inches of wiring and 3
wire nuts. Repairs were made within about an hour, and things quickly returned
to normal. "Thanks to our fire-proofing efforts, no area of the building
was damaged," said Foulks. The fire was located in the attic above the
theater. "We have determined that the fire was a result of a faulty
breaker. The circuit was overloaded by excessive amperage being drawn by large
appliances. Those appliances have since been re-routed through seperate lines." During the building renovation in
March, all flammable insulation was removed from the building. Foulks also said
that smoke detectors have now been added to the attic.

Perfect Score on Fire-Safety Inspection
Submitted August 18, 2002
The TMO Building
was inspected by the Lebanon Fire Department on Friday, August 16, 2002. The
inspecting officer said that this is the first building he has inspected that
passed the first time around. This can be attributed to recent safety
improvements made to the facility over the last few months. Michael Foulks of
the Council said, "We have made many improvements to the building,
including additional fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and smoke
detectors. We have also made modifications to the maintenance room and several
other areas." As a voluntary safety measure, the TMO has established a
maximum occupancy of 34 for the facility, and individual maximum occupancy restricitions for the theater, museum, library, and
offices.
Increased Security at TMO Building
TMO Teams up with Benton Security Police, Inc. and Sprint
Telephone
Submitted August 18, 2002
As the TMO continues to grow, so does
the need for higher security. That's why the TMO has recently contracted with
Benton Security Police, Inc. of Warsaw,
MO, a security consulting firm,
to improve the level of safety at the downtown TMO facility. Benton Security
Police, Inc. has already begun a wide-scale security upgrade to the building,
with the addition of 8' gates blocking the alley next to the building from both
directions. "This will eliminate a potential security risk that we have
been concerned with for quite some time now," said Mike Foulks of the TMO
Council. Additionally, over the next 7 days, they will be installing motion
sensors around the perimeter that will warn of potential intruders with a
series of lights and alarms controlled by a main security panel in the
building's existing steel hazerdous materials room.
"We chose the haz-mat room because of its secure location. Intruders would
have to go through three wooden doors and one steel one to gain access to the
room. Also, the room has no windows, and offers protection to the equipment
during a fire," Foulks said. Sprint has agreed to provide a secure
underground telephone cable free of charge which will allow Benton Security
Police to monitor the site via outdoor cameras. Sprint will also allow the
placement of the cameras on their building and radio tower in exchange for the
24-hour security they will receive from the cameras and gates.
